Larry Wilmore, I’d Rather We Got Casinos: and Other Black Thoughts
Hardcover released on January 13, 2009 by Hyperion.
Posted on January 29, 2009
Wilmore is one of the few Daily Show correspondents with a consistent title. This has allowed him to make an impact on audiences, carving out a niche with his trademarked befuddling of Jon Stewart with his take on Black issues. But Wilmore’s comedy roots go back far deeper; he was a writer on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In Living Color, The Bernie Mac Show, and The Office. For his work on The Bernie Mac Show, he won both an Emmy and a Peabody Award. I’d Rather We Got Casinos is a collection of Wilmore’s musings and thoughts on a variety of Black topics or, as he puts it, his “Black Thoughts.” This covers a broad range of territory, from his search for a Black Jesus to the probably racist lack of UFO interactions by average African-Americans. Wilmore is funny and incisive, while being subtly insightful with his commentary; reading this book will teach you to find racism in everyday in places you may never have expected possible.
