New on Blu-ray: Bride Wars
Release: April 28, 2009; Distributor: Fox Home Entertainment
Posted on May 7, 2009
Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway play best friends who turn into warring Bridezillas when their dream weddings are accidentally scheduled on the same day. Neither bride wants to reschedule — would you if your ceremony and reception were booked at The Plaza in June? — and hijinks ensue, including potentially disastrous incidents involving the tampering of tanning spray and hair dye. But will the brides reach a truce before they ruin both their weddings and their friendship? And if you honestly don’t know the answer to that question, you seriously need to watch more movies. Sure, Bride Wars is formula, and it won’t please people expecting more than that, but overall it’s pleasant and funny in the right places. Much of that is thanks to Hudson and Hathaway, fluff-comedy veterans who know when to turn on the charm to compensate for flat material. Video and Sound No major issues with the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, 1080p video transfer. As with most film transfers, there’s some slight grain but colors and details are crisp — if you want to see a Vera Wang creation up close, you’ll love all the visible details when the camera zooms in. The soundtrack is delivered in lossless 5.1 surround sound, with all the dialogue clearly presented in the front channels, with minimal flourishes. Extras and Features No commentary track (criminal!). Feature-length pop-up trivia track. Featurettes presented in HD: deleted scenes, two brief production docs that act as promos for Vera Wang and The Plaza, three short behind-the-scenes videos featuring various supporting cast members. Featurettes in standard def: Two brief junket interviews with Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. Bride Wars is sold as a three-disc set that includes the Blu-ray version, a DVD copy and a digital copy.

If you prefer UFC over HGTV, be forewarned: Bride Wars is as chick flicky as chick flicks get.
