Neil Young
and The Tragically Hip have been confirmed to perform at this
year's Juno Awards, announced the Canadian Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
Young last attended the Juno Awards in 1982 when he was inducted
into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. He said years later that
he would only make another appearance if the awards show were
held in Winnipeg.
Young was born in Toronto, but was raised in Winnipeg. He began
his music career in the prairie city.
The Hip are this year's Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees
and were long expected to perform. The Hip have won 11 Juno Awards
and have sold over 6 million albums in Canada.
More performers will be announced once the nominations are revealed
on Feb. 7.
The 2005 Juno Awards will be hosted by Corner Gas star
Brent Butt.
Tickets for the April 3 awards show go on sale Feb. 12.
In April 2004, 1.51 million viewers made The 2004 Juno Awards
the most watched show in Canada on the night of its broadcast.
In all, more than five million Canadians tuned in to watch some
part of the broadcast.
