Sony has delayed the worldwide release of its new PlayStation 3 gaming console to November.

Originally, the system was slated to become available in spring, but Ken Kutaragi, president of the Sony's gaming division, said the company needed to delay the release to further improve the system

One major stumbling block was that Sony needed to improve copy protection measures on its Blu-Ray high-definition DVD format used by PS3 games and next-generation movies.

The gaming industry is waiting to see if Sony will continue to lead the video game race against Microsoft's Xbox and to a lesser degree, Nintendo's upcoming Revolution system.

The games industry is worth $25 billion dollars and Sony holds 70% of that market with over 200 million PS2's sold.

This later release date could be advantagous to rival Microsoft, whose competing Xbox 360 console has already been on the market since November 2005.
