Popjournalism's editor-in-chief blogged during the entire Academy Awards
broadcast. Here are the highlights (times are Eastern):
8:30 p.m. - What the hell is
this "Nominees" opening? Laaaaame.
8:34 - Please let this end.
8:36 - Heeere's Ellen.
8:37 - Ellen looks like an usher. Hi, I have a talk show; can I help
you find your seat?
8:42 - Ellen's
finally getting funny. The Al Gore vote joke was great. Steve
Carell's reaction to the diversity comment was priceless.
8:48 - Maggie Gyllenhaal with the Scientific and Technical awards
run down. This is going to be a long night.
9:00 - I'm sorry, but other people's kids are not funny. See: Will
Smith's annoying child.
9:22 - Best
Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, Little Miss Sunshine.
9:23 - BOO! Eddie Murphy was robbed!
9:26 - Dance troupe interpretations? I think this will be one of the
lowest rated Oscars ever.
9:49 - Cute montage on writers as portrayed on film.
10:00 - Anne Hathaway is beautiful. Just thought I'd mention that.
10:15 - Okay, until tonight I hadn't heard much about Pan's
Labyrinth.
Thank goodness there's Wikipedia.
10:16 - Enough with the interpretive dance already!
10:33 - Okay, call me lowbrow, but I liked the dance interpretation
of Snakes on a Plane.
10:46 - Jerry Seinfeld
made me laugh for the first time in hours when describing the best
doc features as "five incredibly depressing
movies."
11:10 - The Academy
president speech sped up to save time — just
how it should be every year!
11:17 - Even though I'm not dying for a career on camera, red carpet
interviewer Chris Connelly makes me feel like I could do his job, oh,
40 or 50 times better.
11:23 - Jennifer
Hudson is totally burying Beyoncé in the Dreamgirls medley. Good for her!
11:39 - Is this the most boring Oscars ever? No highlights to speak
of yet.
11:45 - The dead people popularity segment. Let's see who gets the
most applause...
11:49 - ...And the winner is: Robert Altman!
11:51 - The over-long telecast jokes have started.
12:06 - Here come the big three: Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas
and Steven Spielberg. I'm thinking it's time for Martin Scorsese to
win...
12:08 - Best
Director: Martin Scorsese, The Departed.
12:14 - Best
Picture: The Departed.
12:17 - The End. Finally.
Total running time: 3 hours, 48 minutes. |
