Monday night is home to the biggest show in Canadian TV: Corner Gas.
The CTV sitcom, which regularly drew about 1.5 million viewers last season, starts its fifth year with a big change: a new 9:30 p.m. timeslot.
An expanded edition of the U.S. reality competition Dancing with the Stars takes over Corner Gas' family-friendly 8 p.m. slot. To pad the move, Corner Gas is surrounded by the hit Stars and lead-out C.S.I.: Miami, a top five ratings blockbuster. Corner Gas is in a position to become an even bigger hit this season.
Over at Global, Prison Break and Heroes deliver a dream 18-to-49-year-old audience, and the hope is that their new U.S. simulcast Journeyman will make it a one-two-three punch. NBC's Journeyman features Rome's Kevin McKidd as a time-travelling reporter who solves mysteries and changes lives. Sounds kind of like, uh, NBC's past time-travelling show, Quantum Leap, no?
And finally, the CBC puts two of its most promising new shows from last season up against CTV's and Global's juggernaut line-ups. The start-up fund reality competition Dragons' Den and crime drama Intelligence will have to hope to hold their ground in the ratings — we wish them luck.

Corner Gas (CTV)
Canada's top-rated original program is back for a fifth season in a later, less family-friendly timeslot. Will the move from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. hurt ratings? Probably not. Gas is sandwiched between two blockbuster U.S. shows, Dancing with the Stars and C.S.I.: Miami. Season premiere Sept. 24.
C.S.I.: Miami (CTV)
The forensic crime-fighting team are back for another blood-and-sun-filled season. Season premiere Sept. 24.
Dancing with the Stars (CTV)
The ratings say you demanded it: an extra half-hour of dancing D-list celebrities. Season premiere Sept. 24.
Dragons' Den (CBC)
Returning for its second season, aspiring inventors and entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of investors. Joining the panel is a new female Dragon, Arlene Dickinson, president and CEO of Calgary-based Venture Communications. Season premiere Oct. 1.
Fashion File (CBC)
Moving from Newsworld to the main network this season, the fashion-entertainment program also has a new host, Adrian Mainella. Season premiere Oct. 15
Heroes (Global)
Follwoing the cliffhanger showdown with baddie Sylar, the fate of three of the heroes are revealed. Who lives? Who dies? Who cares?: an audience of over a million Canadians. Season premiere Sept. 24.
Intelligence (CBC)
The critically-acclaimed but low-rated crime drama returns for a second season of Vancouver-based espionage. Season premiere Oct. 1.
Journeyman (Global)
A time-travelling reporter solves mysteries in the past and tries not to let it ruin his present. Series debut Sept. 24.
Prison Break (Global)
Still on the run, the serial drama returns for a third season. Season premiere Sept. 17.
Editor's note: The season premiere of Fashion File is Oct. 15, not Oct. 1 as originally posted. This was corrected on Sept. 19, 2007. |
